Dear All,

As you are aware we work closely with other agencies including the City
Council. The following advice has been passed to us from the Safer
Communities department in the City Council. We are keen to promote this to
discourage burglars operating in the area and to help you make your home
more secure.

1. Secure Your Home.

www.homeoffice.gov.uk/secureyourhome or ring 0800 456 1213 to get hold of a
free home office 'secure your home pack'. This includes a variety of crime
prevention information and advice and discount vouchers for home security
products at some DIY stores (only available if you order a hard copy).

2. Safe at Home Fund.

Full details of this fund can be seen by logging on to
www.grantsadmin.co.uk/saferhomes . The fund is open to applications from
organisations in Cambridge such as:

- A registered charity
- A social enterprise
- An unincorporated association/community group
- A company limited by guarantee (with charitable aims)

Statutory services and individuals are not able to apply for the fund. The
Community Safety Partnership must be approached as part of any bid to
illustrate support. Grants of between £10,000 and £100,000 are available to
fund activity including fitting window locks, repairing windows and doors,
advising people on using security effectively, handyman services and
signposting people to further support. Deadline for bids is 12pm Friday
31st July.

3. Safer City Scheme

This City Council funding is open to groups (formal and informal) to run
their own local community safety projects. It has been used to provide
funding for 'alley gates' to secure private passageways where a group of
residents (all of whom are in agreement) are fearful of burglary. Just this
month funding was made available in Mawson Road to a group of residents all
keen to see a shared passageway secured. Please ask interested groups to
contact Tom Kingsley for info or visit
