Travellers come...and go...? PDF Print E-mail
Local Interest - Author: Nick Warren (Admin) - Friday, 30 July 2010 / Hits: 3

Orchard Park (again) saw another group of travellers arrive yesterday, with at least one further caravan arriving today. This time they've settled on the "mixed use" land to the south of the school, on the corner of Kings Hedges Road and Cambridge Road.

Unlike for the previous travellers (who camped on the City Council land by Graham Road), this land is privately owned by Gallagher Estate who have acted swiftly (hurrah!) to serve eviction notices on all the travellers within 24 hours of them arriving. As a result they are required to vacate immediately, or Gallagher Estates can use bailiffs to enforce the eviction order. A number of the travellers promised to move away by 6pm tonight, and as of 8.30pm a number have, but some still remain.

Unfortunately this encampment is close to the location planned by the community council for public parking for tomorrow's Family Fun Day, and if the remaining travellers fail to move, the council may be required to change these arrangements.

The police will be distributing leaflets to affected residents to advise of the actions taken to date and the state of play - if anyone can pass me a copy of this leaflet that would be much appreciated.

Anyone wanting to register their concerns about this encampment should contact Gallagher Estates (http://www.gallagherestates.co.uk/contact.php) as the landowner. Residents can also contact the police (0345 456 456 4), the Community Council (www.orchardpark.gov.uk) and South Cambridgeshire District Council (http://scambs.gov.uk/form_builder/default.asp?mode=10&sid=33&pid=64) to apply extra pressure to move the process along.

Let's get this party started... PDF Print E-mail
Web Site - Author: Nick Warren - Wednesday, 28 July 2010 / Hits: 19

So it's taken me quite some time to get this website up and running okay (especially the forums!!!), but I think we're finally there, and I plan to shutdown the old www.insidearburypark.net website in the next few weeks...

So let's get this party started...get yourselves registered on this new site and start getting involved...ask questions, answer question, make suggestions for content, news, surveys etc etc.

I started this site for residents with the aspiration of residents being the engine...so it's over to you...please register here, and start posting!!

(BTW - please ignore the error message when registering...I'm investigating this, but it seems to be a problem for other websites as well...)

E-Cops - Latest news about the travelller encampment PDF Print E-mail
ECOPS - Author: Nick Warren (Admin) - Thursday, 27 May 2010 / Hits: 111

Dear All

The Cambridge City Council is attending court at 10am today, Wednesday 26th May, to obtain an eviction order.
This will mean that the travelllers can be moved off Orchard Park.

We realise some people have had concerns about the encampment, and other issues it may bring to the area. There has been no increase in anti-social behaviour or crime during this period.

Regards

PCSO Jackie King
